Wortley’s TV Harrison ground was brought back to life yesterday for a charity football game that raised almost £1,000
The pitch has been painstakingly restored by volunteers of the TV Harrison Community Action Group for a game against Armley’s Christ Church FC.
All proceeds raised will go towards a specialist wheelchair for eight-year-old Oliver Rooney, from Bramley.
Oliver has Wolf Hirschhorn Syndrome, an extremely rare chromosomal disorder which means he has physical and learning delays and has absolutely no awareness of danger, so he needs to be constantly supervised.
Oliver is in need of an all-terrain wheelchair so he can watch his four brothers play football and join them on adventures.
The field on Oldfield Lane has been officially closed for 15 years and faces an uncertain future, with Leeds City Council aiming to build 50 houses on the site, despite widespread local opposition and a petition with more than 4,000 names on.
Dave Redmond, of CVS Digital, was the reporter/producer was at The TV Harrison ground yesterday. Here’s his video.
I think Alan Smith of Leeds U and Man U played on that pitch as he would have certainly been included in his school team.
