The love story behind Horsforth’s new Thai Bistro, ‘Go!Thai’

By Jan Calvert

Su Pa Pon, affectionately known as ‘Pu’, travelled to England from Thailand over 30 years ago to study Engineering at Leeds University. Paul Tunnicliff was born and bred in Bramley, attended Benjamin Gott High School and has worked as an ice-cream man, DJ and restaurateur.

Both have a passion for authentic Thai food. When they met a dream was born!

Paul described how Su Pa Pon has followed her passion. “Pu has worked as a chef in Leeds for 23 years, including 11 years as head chef at Mommy Thai in Leeds City Centre,” he said. “Pu just loves cooking authentic Thai food!”

Now Paul and Pu have brought their love for Thai food to New Road Side in Horsforth and opened a small, family friendly bistro – Go!Thai – in the heart of Horsforth.

The couple have renovated and re-fashioned the facilities with the advice and help of various members of three generations of their family. Paul added: “It’s been a real family affair.”

The bistro, which opened this weekend and is licensed to sell alcohol, has already received five-star ratings and has been praised for its friendly service and range of traditional, tasty dishes with vegetarian and vegan options.

Paul asked: “What would you like for tea? Let’s GoThai!”
