Inspired by parkrun UK a free 5k weekly event Junior parkrun UK turned 15 over the weekend (6.4.25).
Junior parkrun is a free 2k weekly event held every Sunday morning to encourage children to become more active whilst having fun. Children aged four years to 14 years can walk, jog or run with or without their parent/guardian.

Children can gain milestone awards for completing at any junior event in the UK, Ireland and Australia.
The five milestones include: A Half marathon for completing 11 events; a marathon for 32 junior events; 50 junior events earns an ultra-marathon wristband, while completing 100 and 250 event children are awarded a silver and yellow wrist band respectively.Â
Bramley junior parkrun had its inaugural event in July 2016.
Following a warm up session, the event starts at 9am in Bramley Park and is supported with a dedicated core team of volunteers to ensure the event can go ahead safely.
While adults do not receive a run credit they can gain volunteer milestones and this week David Highfield celebrated his 100th time as a volunteer.Â

Danny Hutchinson (co-event director) said: “It’s a great way to start a Sunday morning. To see the little ones at first really shy then after a few weeks they start to make friends and happily run by themselves.
“They tend to run with smiles on their faces. Parents and guardians are always welcomed to volunteer whilst their children are participating.”
