Stanningley: Sunfield Medical Centre flats plans withdrawn by developer

By John Baron

Developers have withdrawn plans to transform an empty medical centre in Stanningley into eight apartments.

A report on behalf of applicant Adam Hainsworth said residential would be the best use of the former Sunfield Medical Centre due to a lack of prospective tenants for the four-storey building in its current form.

Plans had also included building a further detached dwelling in the grounds to the rear of the former surgery.

But Leeds City Council’s design team raised concerns including the scale and massing of the proposed dwelling house, appearance, siting and layout. A report offering feedback to the proposals claimed the development would offer ‘a poor environment in terms of placemaking and amenity’.

And civic watchdog Leeds Civic Trust’s planning committee had also objected to the scheme on the grounds of overdevelopment of the site.

The plans were formally withdrawn by the applicant this week. It’s not known whether they will return with fresh proposals.

As previously reported by WLD, the Sunfield Place site has been empty since the surgery merged with Hillfoot Surgery in Pudsey last year.

The withdrawn plans and all the documents can be viewed in full here.
