Pudsey Waterloo pupils enjoy Bramley junior parkrun

By Vickie Jamieson

Bramley junior parkrun welcomed over 50 new runners on Sunday – all thanks to Pudsey Waterloo Primary School, as part of the ‘parkrun primary’ scheme.

Parkrun started the #parkrunprimary initiative in September 2025, asking schools across the UK to join in and become a parkrun primary school to support young people’s health and wellbeing through the weekend with junior parkrun. And Pudsey Waterloo were happy to step up to that challenge.

Pupils from Pudsey Waterloo Primary joined other regular participants on Sunday morning, to run and walk the 2km route around Bramley Parkrun, with lots of parents, grandparents and guardians joining in.

Event director Danny Hutchinson was thrilled to see so many new participants taking part. She said that seeing the children being so enthusiastic about a simple physical activity they can do alongside their family and friends was ‘really encouraging’.

The parkrun primary project aims to encourage children, families and school staff to enjoy regular physical activity outside of school hours and hopes to create a long-lasting positive attitude towards movement and sports.

Junior parkrun can have huge beneficial effects for children and adults. Research showed that 67% of parents felt that being involved with junior parkrun not only helped to improve their child’s level of physical activity but that it also had a positive impact on their enjoyment too, reporting that children felt confident, proud and had more energy after taking part.
