Controversial proposals to build nine new housesĀ in Pudsey will be debated by councillors next week.
The proposals, from applicant Mr D Newett, include a mix of three, four and five-bed properties, along with access, parking and landscaping off Alder Drive.
Councillors on the south and west plans panel at Leeds Civic Hall will next Thursday (26 March) whether to approve the proposals, which have attracted 42 objections.
Concerns include highway safety and parking, layout and density of buildings and appearance.
This application has been brought to Plans Panel at the request of Councillor Andrew Carter (Cons, Calverley & Farsley) who has raised concerns about the siteās partial encroachment into the green belt and the risk of facilitating further development in the area. Cllr Trish Smith (Ref, Pudsey) also objected.
A council planning officer’s report recommends councillors approve the plans, subject to a raft of planning conditions. The report praises the ‘high standard of design that respects local character’.
It concludes: “Overall, the proposed development is considered acceptable when assessed against the relevant national and local planning policies. The scheme delivers muchāneeded housing within the Main Urban Area.
“The limited encroachment into the green belt relates only to the access road and constitutes an engineering operation that preserves openness and does not conflict with the purposes of including land within the green belt.”
