The Pudsey & Farsley Royal British Legion Branch was proud to take part in this year’s VE Day 80 commemorations, paying tribute to the sacrifice and service of those who fought for our freedom during the Second World War.
Branch members gathered in solemn remembrance at both Farsley War Memorial and Pudsey Cenotaph, standing side by side with our community to reflect on the legacy of victory in Europe and the peace that followed.
These services were a moving reminder of our enduring commitment to uphold the memory of the fallen and to support all who serve.

In the spirit of community, Branch representatives also attended two fantastic local VE Day parties – one hosted by MHA Communities Farsley at St John’s Church Hall, and another at Hutton Manor Care Home. Both events were filled with warmth, gratitude, and heartfelt conversations.

A special moment was shared at the Farsley event when Peter Cliff proudly brought a photograph of his father, Harold Cliff, who served in Burma with the Black Watch.
Stories like Harold’s are a poignant reminder of the human courage behind our commemorations.

Pudsey & Farsley Royal British Legion Branch members extend their warmest wishes to everyone who attended, and offer sincere thanks to all those who gave their time to organise, tidy and decorate the memorials, and support these events.
“Your efforts helped make this anniversary a fitting and memorable tribute to a generation whose bravery changed the course of history,” a spokesperson said.
