A petition to reinstate the number 508 bus through Farsley has been launched by a Farsley resident.
Part of the 508 route which cut through Farsley was discontinued by First Bus as part of a reorganisation of buses in West Leeds last year.
Now, resident Simon Banoub has today launched a petition to get the route reinstated.
Mr Banoub said: “My life, like many in our community, has become significantly more challenging since the discontinuation of the 508 bus route through Farsley.
“Everyday travel decisions are now more difficult as we are left without any decent bus travel options into Leeds centre. This change has not only impacted our access to vital amenities, but also added hundreds of unnecessary car journeys, exacerbating issues related to pollution and traffic congestion in our region. The reopening of this route is a necessity to reconnect our community and for sustainability.
“First Bus West Yorkshire decided to remove the Farsley portion of the 508 route which had been an essential part of the community’s daily routines. The decision has impacted the elderly, the young, and those without a vehicle.
“This bus route provided a crucial connection to important amenities like cinemas, gyms, restaurants, medical facilities and schools, affecting especially those who relied on public transportation as their primary means of commuting.”
Mr Banoub added: “The reinstatement of the 508 bus route is not just a move for the convenience of Farsley’s residents, but also in alignment with our shared commitment to a more sustainable future.
“We urge First Bus West Yorkshire to review their decision and restore the 508 bus route through Farsley. Please sign this petition to bring the much-needed change.”

The residents of Richardshaw Lane and it’s surrounding areas, also have no direct route into Leeds. We are left with the option ,of walking up to Pudsey bus station. Down to Stanningley Bottom. Or changing buses. The 16 goes all over West Leeds. There are many elderly and disabled residents who miss the old 73. When our local councillor was contacted by myself on the subject he dismissed it out of hand
Why should an “inter city” bus want to spend hours trundling through a minor suburb? I thought it madness when t was taken away from Stanningley Road.
