Council planners have rejected resubmitted plans for an illuminated sign at the Vape Masters shop on Lidget Hill, Pudsey.
Applicant William Walsh applied for one 5.1m-wide internally illuminated fascia sign at the shop.
There were eight letters of objection, including from Councillor Dawn Seary (Cons, Pudsey) and Councillor Trish Smith (Ind, Pudsey). Concerns were expressed over the ‘garish’ nature of the sign, which was not in keeping with Pudsey town centre, and the ‘excessive size and illumination in a conservation area.
The application was a resubmission following October’s refusal of advertisement consent for an internally illuminated sign which was higher and had larger letters.
A planning officer’s report refusing the application concluded the application failed to meet planning policy and added: “The proposed advertisement – due to its size, design and method of illumination – would create an unsympathetic and overly dominant feature within the street scene, which would adversely affect the appearance and the visual amenities of the surrounding area and the special character of Pudsey Conservation Area.”
The plans can be viewed in full here.
Update: This article was amended on Thursday 23 January at 10.50am to note Cllr Smith’s objection.
