Community charity BEAT LS5 is bringing the sounds of the 70s to Hawksworth Wood, Kirkstall with a new 70’s Disco event.
The community charity has recently taken over the old YMCA building in the middle of the estate, and is restoring it back to use as a hub for the local community.
The fabulous 70’s Disco event – on Saturday, 2 May at the BEAT building – will bring all the classic sounds of the glam-rock decade to the dancefloor – and every ticket holder gets a free drink.
As well as a DJ spinning T-Rex, the Bee Gees and Sweet, there will be live music courtesy of local supergroup, Vig Vam Bam, 70’s Super Glam, who play all over West Yorkshire, bringing the very best tunes to the stage.
Sadie Oddy, CEO of BEAT, said: “We’re bringing all the feel-good vibes with our 70’s Disco event. You can expect great music, plenty of dancing, a licensed bar and a really fun night with friends – all for less than a tenner!
“Tickets are just £7.50 in advance and include your first drink, or come along and pay £10 on the door. Doors open at 7pm at BEAT, Lea Farm Mount, LS5 3PX. This is an over 18s event and tickets are expected to go quickly, so make sure you book yours before they’re gone!”
BEAT is a recently established charitable organisation that has grown out of the legacy of the HAVA (Hawksworth, Abbeydales and Vesper Area) Big Local project.
The Hawksworth Wood area was identified as one of the UK’s most disadvantaged communities through the National Lottery-funded Big Local programme, which invested in local initiatives designed to strengthen community resilience and opportunity.
Building on this foundation, BEAT aims to continue and expand the work started by HAVA by supporting local residents and creating opportunities that improve wellbeing, inclusion and life chances. Its vision is to help create a thriving, engaged and hopeful community in Hawksworth Wood.
