Plans to improve the entrance to the Grade II Listed Britannia public house in Pudsey have been approved by council planners.
Applicant Liam Jewett, from the Stonegate Group, has been given the green light to relocate the existing entrance door to the front of its porch area to improve access to the pub.
Plans also include the part ‘building-up’ of the existing door to form a new window.
The building, off Swinnow Road, is on the edge of the Pudsey conservation area and dates back to the 18th century, with 20th century alterations.
A council planning officer’s report approving the application concluded:
“It is not considered that the works would be harmful to the significance and setting of the heritage assets and subject to conditions securing appropriate materials through the submission of samples, the resultant appearance of the porch would remain character responsive.
“Moreover, the existing door to the side of the porch is a harmful element to the façade and the works would be virtue of its removal act to enhance the heritage qualities of the building.”
