Manager Pav Singh quits Farsley Celtic – three players depart

By John Baron

Crisis-hit Farsley Celtic are searching for their third manager of the season after Pav Singh left the club.

Singh’s departure was announced on Saturday following 24 hours of speculation over his future.

The club sits three points and one place above the National League North relegation zone after a turbulent season which has seen the Celts play 30 consecutive league and cup games away from The Citadel due to delays on installing a new 4G pitch.

The Celts are currently playing ‘home’ games 70 miles away at the home of Buxton FC.

Singh, who was also the club’s director of football and an executive director, stepped down after over two years with the club. He had taken on managerial duties after the dismissal of Clayton Donaldson and assistant Danny Ellis in September.

He is remaining at Farsley in an ambassadorial role.

Club captain and coach Chris Atkinson, who holds the record for the most outings in Farsley colours, has also departed Farsley, the club announced on Friday. He is one of three players to leave, with the club announcing on Saturday that his brother Ben, a midfielder, has also moved on.

Young forward DJ Campton-Sturridge, the cousin of ex-Liverpool star Daniel, has completed a switch to fellow National League North side Hereford.

In terms of the immediate future of Farsley Celtic, chairman Paul Barthorpe added: “We will look to announce a new manager very soon and a number of new player signings to support that announcement. We will also give an update on the pitch with finish dates and what our home fixtures will be this season.”

Managerless Farsley’s next game will see the Celts play Scarborough Athletic on Friday (17 January) at Buxton’s Tarmac Silverlands Stadium (7.45pm).

Scarborough confirmed on social media they had “reluctantly agreed” to the game being played on Friday night as Buxton are due to use the pitch on the Saturday.

In November, Farsley Celtic Supporters Club announced a boycott of ‘home’ games played at the venue.

At the weekend Bradford (Park Avenue) announced that any Farsley season ticket holders from this season or last season will have free entry to their Northern Premier League East Division games at Horsfall between now and the end of the campaign.
