A court date has been set to evict travellers who have set up an encampment in the car park at Kirkstall Leisure Centre.

Leeds City Council is applying to move on the travellers, who set up camp at the start of the month, and has a court date set for Monday 22 February, with the eviction booked for the next day.

Councillor Fiona Venner (Lab, Kirkstall) posted on Facebook:

“This is longer than it would usually be, but there is a court backlog. We also have another site we are going to ask them to go to, but we cannot enforce this without the order.

“In the meantime, the council Traveller Services team are visiting regularly and we always ensure groups have facilities such as toilets and bins.

“I have not received any complaints at all about this group (I also live near the site myself) but we are trying to encourage them to go to a site better set up and in a less populated area.”
