Plans to build more than 200 properties in the heart of Kirkstall have been given final approval by planning chiefs – a year after the principle of the development was established.
Developers Artisan will build 183 flats and 80 ‘townhouses’ at its Kirkstall Place development. Plans, which also include demolishing several buildings on the site, were accepted in principle by councillors in March 2020, with details delegated to officers for final approval.
Planning officers have now signed off the scheme, subject to 37 planning conditions and a series of legal agreements. These include work to start on site within three years.
The developer will also fund a travel plan for future residents and an off-site greenspace enhancement of £368,000.
The development will comprise 32 one-bed and 151 two-bed apartments. The 80 townhouses would be a mix of two, three and four-bed units.
There had been more than 50 objections to the original scheme, with concerns ranging from a lack of affordable housing provision, to highways, traffic congestion and green space concerns.
