After a successful relaunch last month why not come and join us on Wednesday, June 5 at The Owl in Rodley for the next West Leeds Dispatch community quiz night, held as part of the inaugural Indie News Week.
Launching on 3 June and running till 9 June the first Indie News Week is a celebration of local news as an important part of the local community. WLD is delighted to be a part of this national event – and what better way to celebrate than with a fun community quiz night!
Indie News Week is a new initiative by the Public Interest News Foundation, with the slogan “no news is bad news”, with online, in print and in person features alongside community events run by independent news organisations such as ours.
As always with our community quiz nights there is an emphasis on the social aspect of the evening, but they are also an opportunity for community engagement, to meet the team and to find out what really goes into delivering local news.
Local news providers like WLD are increasingly struggling to generate the funds needed to run their services, putting at risk the many benefits of public interest news they bring. The week aims to highlight this issue as well as the multiple positive aspects of local news to society, communities and democracy.
So why not join us on 5 June to celebrate all things local news and enjoy a great sociable evening. The Owl team will very kindly be providing us with some half-time food and of course there will be a well stocked bar with all sorts of soft and alcoholic drinks. Entry is free.
Official proceedings, with quiz mistress Jill, start at 8pm but feel free to come along anytime from 7pm for a drink and a chat with the team.
