Students from Leeds Trinity University were welcomed to Amazon’s fulfilment centre for a behind-the-scenes tour.
Leeds Trinity University students were guided by Senior Operations Manager, David Buckley, who explained how the site manages customer orders. The group learned how products are stored, picked, packed and shipped, and how technology supports each step of the process.
12 members of Catch Youth Group, based in Harehills, also visited the fulfilment centre for a tour.
Josh Vause, Site Leader at Amazon in Leeds, said: “We were pleased to welcome the students and youth group to our site. It’s great to show young people how a modern fulfilment centre works, and to provide an insight into the wide variety of jobs and development opportunities that are available at Amazon right here in Leeds.”
Farhan Abbas, a student at Leeds Trinity, added: “It was really interesting to see how everything fits together at Amazon in Leeds. I was especially surprised by how much technology is involved and how organised the process is.
“It’s made me think more about how modern businesses work, and will help shape what I’d like to do with my career after university.”
Amazon has supported more than one million students across the UK with free STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good.
