The Sixth Form at Horsforth is celebrating another year of outstanding A Level results, with students achieving exceptional outcomes across academic and vocational qualifications.
This year’s results saw 38% of grades awarded at A*, A, or Distinction, while 71% were a B or better (or equivalent).
Students will now progress to universities across the UK, including Oxford and Cambridge, while others have secured competitive apprenticeships or are moving directly into employment.

Oliver Watkins, Director of Sixth Form at Horsforth, paid tribute to the students’ achievements: “I’m absolutely delighted with today’s results and, more importantly, for every one of our students. They have worked incredibly hard to reach this point, and it is wonderful to see so many securing the opportunities they have worked towards.
“We are especially proud of the exceptional progress made by this year’s students during their time at the Sixth Form. Measures of value-added show that students have achieved significantly beyond expectations from their starting points, making this one of the strongest groups we have seen.
“These outcomes reflect the ambition and resilience of our students, the expertise and dedication of our staff, and the impact of a learning environment where every student is supported and challenged to fulfil their potential. The progress achieved by this group places them among the strongest-performing students nationally in terms of the gains made during their studies.
“Whether they are progressing to university, an apprenticeship or employment, they leave Horsforth with the confidence, knowledge and character to succeed. I would like to thank our dedicated staff and supportive families for the part they have played in helping our students achieve so much. We are incredibly proud of this exceptional year group and look forward to seeing everything they accomplish in the future.”
Among the students celebrating today are Libby Fearnley, who achieved A* A* A* A and will study English Literature at the University of Cambridge, Hari Singh achieved A* A* A* and will study Biomedical Science at the University of Oxford, Javan Asante, who achieved Distinction AA and is starting a Civil Engineering apprenticeship with NG Bailey and Oliver Norminton who achieved A*AAC and has secured a golf scholarship at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana. Alongside playing for the college golf team, he’ll be studying for a degree in Mathematics.
As a member of the Sixth Form at Horsforth’s Golf Academy, Oliver has been able to develop his skills and pursue his passion for golf alongside his academic studies, helping him take the next step towards combining his education and sporting ambitions in the USA.
Reflecting on her results, Libby said: “I’m absolutely thrilled. Studying English Literature at Cambridge has been a dream of mine, so it’s an incredible feeling to know that all the hard work has paid off. I couldn’t have done it without the support and encouragement of my teachers.”
Looking ahead to university, Hari Singh said: “I’m so happy with my results and really excited to be heading to Oxford to study Biomedical Science. It’s an amazing opportunity and I’m looking forward to everything that comes next. I’m incredibly grateful to my teachers and everyone at the Sixth Form for all the support, encouragement and confidence they’ve given me along the way.”
Celebrating his results and the next step in his career, Javan Asante added: “I’m really pleased with my results and can’t wait to get started with my apprenticeship. I’m excited to put what I’ve learned into practice, gain experience in the industry and begin the next stage of my career. It feels great to see all the hard work pay off.”
Preparing for his next chapter in the USA, Oliver said: “I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved. Horsforth has given me so many opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom, and I’m excited to begin studying in America and see what the future holds.”
The Sixth Form at Horsforth offers more than 30 academic and vocational qualifications.
Thousands of students across Leeds are picking up their A Level results today.
Councillor Helen Hayden, Leeds City Council’s executive member for children and families, said: “Huge congratulations to everyone picking up their A-level or other post-16 results today. I know today is mix of nerves and excitement and you should all feel proud of the efforts and dedication which have led you here.
“Thank you also to all staff across our city’s schools, settings and colleges for their hard work and high-quality teaching which has supported pupils as they prepared for their assessments this year.
“As corporate parents, we are also keen to say how proud we are of our children looked after and care leavers who are also receiving their results today and want to thank those adults – including personal advisors – who have played a key role in supporting our children too.
“There is a range of guidance and support for young people, including those that are worried they didn’t get the results they needed, to help them on their next steps – whether that’s continuing in higher education, starting an apprenticeship or entering the world of work. We wish all students the very best of luck for the future.”
