Horsforth footpath could be diverted

By John Baron

Part of a public footpath could be diverted in order to address safeguarding risks at Horsforth School.

Leeds City Council officers have given the green light in principle to divert part of a public footpath on land occupied by Horsforth School, between Church Lane and Hall Park Avenue, Horsforth.

The section of footpath is between the new school building and the hard courts. The school has requested the footpath’s diversion.

A council report says: “The diversion will help maintain and improve this footpath, which is part of a network of paths leading to the Hunger Hills Wood access land to the north-west of the school.”

The report adds: “The diversion of the footpath is of the utmost necessity to address the safeguarding risks posed by the footpath crossing the extended school site.”

The report asks the City Solicitor to make and advertise a Public Path Diversion Order. The order will be implemented subject to there being no objections. In the event of objections which cannot be withdrawn, the order would be referred to the Secretary of State, Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for determination.

Horsforth Town Council supports the proposed diversion and commented that the existing route would present safeguarding concerns.

The full report can be read in full here.
