It’s been a busy week in Horsforth as residents and local organisations marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a number of community events.
As well as the commemorations and events organised by the Town Council, local groups also organised special events for residents.Â
Last Sunday Horsforth Conservative Club on Town Street held a street party with a BBQ and refreshments for all to enjoy.



On Thursday MHA Communities Horsforth held a special edition of its Thursday lunch club to mark the 80th anniversary.




MHA members enjoyed corned beef hash and jelly and ice cream and watched the televised national events marking the day and did quizzes and wordsearches.


Beryl Egan, aged 95 (and a half), attended with her daughter Tracey, and reminisced about partying on VE Day 80 years ago.



On Saturday Horsforth Museum held a VE Day afternoon tea with spam sandwiches, woolton pie and delicious homemade cakes, whilst enjoying music from the era.





May 8 marked the 80th anniversary of the formal surrender by Germany to mark the end of the war in Europe, with events taking place across the country.
