Much-loved Town Street venue Truly Scrummy have been even busier than usual over the past couple of months, serving up tasty delights and putting back into the community.
The Horsforth cafe has had several stalls selling their sweet treats at events in the town and now they are using the profits to support local sport.
Busy stalls at Horsforth Sports Club Music Festival and Horsforth Festival in Hall Park have helped the cafe to lend their financial support to grassroots sport through their sponsorship at Horsforth Cricket Club and through the sponsorship of a local children’s football team kit.

Lucy and Karl Todd are the owners at Truly Scrummy and were keen to thank the community on their Facebook page.
They said: “We are absolutely bursting with pride and gratitude today. Thanks to the incredible, overwhelming support you showed us at our stalls over the last two weekends we’ve been able to give back to the community that gives so much to us.
“We want to be completely honest with you: without your turning up to support our stalls and shopping with us we simply wouldn’t have been able to do this. This is the power of a real community.
“When you spend local your money doesn’t disappear into a corporate pocket – it goes right back into funding the teams, clubs and lives of people who live here. Spend local and watch how your money can truly change lives in your community.
“Thank you all so much for making this possible and here’s to keeping our own local community thriving together.”
Claire Secker is from Horsforth Sports Club. She said: “Truly Scrummy are the definition of a business at the heart of the community.
“Lucy and her team have been fantastic supporters of the clubs within Horsforth Sports Club, from sponsoring our Horsforth St Margaret’s junior football teams and cricket club to bringing their popular pop-up stalls to our events.”
“We’re proud of our partnership and grateful for the positive impact they continue to make across our community.”
But that’s not all they have been up to. Regulars at Horsforth Community Cafe enjoyed a delicious slice of cake donated by Truly Scrummy for their tenth birthday celebrations last month.

And last week it was an early start as they prepared 38 afternoon teas for patients and families at the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund. A generous discount from Truly Scrummy alongside funding from sponsor the Welcome Break Charitable Fund meant that patients and their families enjoyed a much needed treat.

The CHSF said on their social media: “Today we brought a little taste of summer to the heart families staying on ward L51 and PICU with special afternoon tea bags.
“Filled with delicious sandwiches and cakes as well as scones with clotted cream and jam, the treats were delivered as a mid-week pick me up for parents spending time at their children’s bedside.
“We wanted to create a moment for families to pause, enjoy something special and know they’re being thought of during what can be a challenging time.
“A huge thank you to Truly Scrummy for creating the beautiful afternoon tea bags and helping us bring a smile to families at Leeds Children’s, as well as to Welcome Break Charitable Fund for helping us to fund this treat!”

Ruth Davany is the CEO of the CHSF: “A huge thank you to Welcome Break Charitable Fund and Truly Scrummy for helping us provide Afternoon Tea on the Ward this week – what a treat and we were so pleased that families enjoyed tucking in.
“We know how easy it is for parents to miss a meal, not wanting to leave their child’s bedside. CHSF Family Support come round with a Wellbeing Trolley regularly and provide food vouchers for families most in need. We can only do this with help from our supporters and partners – thank you!”

Lucy from Truly Scrummy also has a personal connection to the CHSF, having worked with Corporate Partnerships Manager Amanda Warrent during their time at Barnados and having also done a stint of agency work at the CHSF when herself and Karl first moved to Leeds.
Lucy told us: “We were absolutely thrilled to be asked to provide Afternoon Teas for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund. This delivery was incredibly close to our hearts… It was so special to team up with a generous sponsor to give a little something back to an organisation that does such vital, amazing work in our community.”
And the families were delighted with their afternoon treats with many taking to social media to express their thanks.

The Children’s Heart Surgery Fund has provided holistic family support and vital resources through their partnership with the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, the specialist cardiac centre for all of Yorkshire, the Humber, North and North East Lincolnshire, and North Derbyshire, for more than 40 years.
