Calling all lovers of things West Leeds! Do you live or work in West Leeds? Are you passionate about volunteering, communications, good quality journalism or giving everyone the opportunity to have a voice? writes REBECCA WHITTINGTON.
Do you have some time to spare to help shape the future of hyperlocal community news and communications in West Leeds?
If you can answer yes to one or more of these questions then why not consider joining the board governing the West Leeds Dispatch? You don’t need to be a journalist or a writer to take part – in fact we are looking for members with a range of skills and interests, including business, finance, computing, community projects, local knowledge and more!
As a board member you will help shape the future of the Dispatch and its mother-company West Leeds Community Media.
You will help turn the currently volunteer-led Dispatch into an organisation that can afford to pay an editor and potentially more staff in the future as well as develop its training and engagement programme to encourage more people in West Leeds to develop their skills and confidence in contributing content for the site.
It might be that you want to progress your own experiences for your career development. Or perhaps you have time or knowledge to give to a project and you are looking for the right volunteering opportunity.
The board meets on a monthly basis at Bramley Lawn and there are chances for members to represent the Dispatch at events in West Leeds. There are also regular opportunities to take named positions on the board, including chairperson, secretary and treasurer.
If you would like to volunteer or if you just want to find out more, email news@westleedsdispatch.com with a brief outline about yourself and why you are interested in getting on board.
