Fed up children at Hawksworth Wood Primary School are campaigning to put an end to dog mess in their community with the help of their councillor.
Councillor Fiona Venner (Lab, Kirkstall ward) is taking part in a campaign with Hawksworth Wood Primary School children, school dog Cookie, and community organisation BEAT (Belonging, Empowering and Thriving).
Children took part in a competition to design posters and slogans for the campaign. The winner in each year group have had their work turned into a metallic sign to be attached to lamp posts around Hawksworth Wood, along with boxes distributing poo bags to encourage people to clean up after their dogs.

A letter written by the school’s eco warriors team, which is being distributed to community organisations and sent home in every book bag, explains the risks of not cleaning up dog mess and urges people to take responsibility for their dogs.
Councillor Fiona Venner (Labour, Kirkstall) said: “It has been amazing to work with the students at Hawksworth Wood and help them spread their important message: we all have a role to play in keeping our community clean!
“The creativity and hard work of the children has been brilliant and following the eco warriors’ letter and the displaying of winning posters and slogans, I hope owners will realise the importance of cleaning up after their dogs.
“In the words of the school Eco Warriors; Be a supoohero – pick up after your dog!”
