A former Stanningley pub will be transformed into an Indian restaurant after plans were approved by Leeds City Council.
Applicant Shanjid Ali applied to change the use of the empty Old Crown Pub to a restaurant with ancillary alcohol and takeaway sales, together with a side extension.
The bar and bistro – to be called Alishaan – would operate between 10am and 11pm, seven days a week.
The operation is expected to support around six full-tme equivalent staff across kitchen and front-of-house roles.
The main physical changes include rationalising the existing side escape and improving the rear service arrangements, while keeping the Town Street elevation largely unchanged.
A council planning officer’s report accompanying the application stated the application meets local and national planning policies.
A letter accompanying the application concludes: “Overall, the development secures the beneficial re-use of a traditional stone and slate building in a sustainable location, maintains an active ground-floor frontage on Town Street and delivers an improved relationship with surrounding residential uses when compared with the historic late-night pub operation.”
WLD first reported the sale of the pub building in November 2024.

Why couldn’t it have been taken over by something classy like Costa, do we really need another of these places
You would rather have a chain coffee shop than an independent business?
First time I’ve ever heard Costa described as classy. And are there really many Indian restaurants in this vicinity?
