Gallagher Leisure Park: Bradford council oppose KFC application

Bradford Council has added its opposition to plans for a KFC and Costa Coffee at Gallagher Leisure Park in Thornbury.

As previously reported, more than 50 local residents have already opposed plans by Urban and Civic (Bradford) Ltd, for two new ‘drive thru’ restaurants.

Due to the site’s location on the outskirts of west Leeds and Bradford, the T&A reports that Bradford Council has been asked to comment.

Julian Jackson, Assistant Director for Planning, Transportation and Highways in Bradford, said:

“It is suggested that the proposal offers a fairly mundane approach to the design of the buildings providing a commonplace solution that takes little influence from the District’s local character.

“The development does not seek to provide high quality contemporary design to complement its setting.”

Local residents have already expressed concerns about increased traffic, noise and the proximity of local schools.

Farsley and Calverley councillor Andrew Carter has said impact on neighbouring properties should be minimised.

A statement accompanying the planning application said developers aimed to invest significantly to help ‘sustain the park as a viable and attractive leisure location in the west Leeds / east Bradford area’.

The planning application can be viewed here.
