Fresh padel court plans submitted at Swinnow Grange Mills

Racket sport courts could be built in a west Leeds community if plans are agreed with the city council.

Planning permission is sought for padel courts in the Swinnow Grange Mills complex in Bramley.

Leeds City Council has been asked to approve plans for two covered courts with lighting at the site off Stanningley Road. Similar plans at the site were submitted and approved last year.

A design report said the site was currently being used for car parking following the demolition of vacant buildings.

It said: “The application site forms part of a the Swinnow Grange Mills complex.

“The proposed change of use and development will constitute a positive addition not only to Swinnow Grange Mills but to the residents of the wider community.”

Gems Investments Ltd has applied for change-of-use planning consent for the scheme.

The courts would measure ten by 20m and be covered by powder-coated aluminium frames.

The report said padel was a fast-growing sport in the UK and users of the courts would have nearby access to public transport links.

Disabled parking would be provided if the scheme is approved by council planners.

It said: “The site is well served with regular bus routes, with a number of stops within 300m from the application site on both Stanningley Road and Swinnow Road.

“To promote cycling to the application site, an eight-bike covered shelter with bike racks will be provided.

“The wider site has communal car parking for all businesses operating with Swinnow Grange Mills.”

A full planning application is out for consultation until August 12. The plans can be viewed in full here.
