Firefighters help tackle wheelie bin arson at Bramley parkrun

By Jean Hollings

Firefighters from Stanningley Fire Station helped to raise awareness of issues with wheelie bin fires when they took part in Bramley parkrun at the weekend.

Youths burning wheelie bins around the park has been a problem for many years.

In an attempt to mitigate this issue fire crews are joining the Bramley parkrun team to chat to all participants/local residents about the problem and what’s being done by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and partners to tackle the issue.

As well as the adult parkrun on Saturday, they also took part in Sunday’s junior parkrun and handed out leaflets about keeping wheelie bins secure. They’ll also be at parkrun next weekend.

Bramley parkrun is a free weekly 5k event where participants can walk, run or volunteer. on a Saturday morning.

Bramley Junior parkrun is a free weekly 2k event held on a Sunday for children aged four to 14 years to walk or run and where parent/guardians can volunteer while their child is participating.

Firefighters attending on Saturday included watch commander Alex McLean, crew manager David Vickers and firefighters Sean Murphy and Jack Rhodes. Sunday included watch commander Alex McLean and firefighters Glenn Brother, Joe Ward, Bon Levy and Lee Etheridge.
