Firefighters attend Wortley blaze – smoke seen for miles over Leeds – Updated

Firefighters are tackling a blaze at an industrial unit in Wortley.

The incident involves an industrial unit at Barras Garth Industrial Estate, Barras Garth Road, off Upper Wortley Road. Local residents are being urged to remain inside with doors and windows closed.

Firefighters are currently in attendance, with six crews from Moortown, Stanningley, Hunslet and Morley, and an aerial appliance from Bradford.

A large cloud of black smoke could be seen for miles – with one report on social media saying the smoke could be seen from Cleckheaton.

In a press statement, West Yorkshire Fire Service said there were no reports of any injuries.

Police are also in attendance.

Upper Wortley Road is currently closed to traffic.
