Find it in Farsley: 100 businesses sign up to encourage people to ‘shop local’

As lockdown lifts and Leeds enters Tier 3, more than 100 Farsley businesses in the have applied to feature on a new free ‘shop local’ website called ‘Find it in Farsley’.

The site is the brainchild of digital marketer Clare Clifford, who decided to use her expertise in helping businesses shine online to put her local high street on the map.

The site offers local businesses an online presence without the associated costs and allows those from Farsley and beyond to shop local. Businesses on the site are also promoted via social media and there are plans for a quarterly newsletter in 2021.

Clare has been part of the local community in Farsley for over a decade now and strongly believes in investing in her local community and shopping small and local where possible – Farsley Town Street is at the heart of that.

Clare Clifford, owner of Rodley based Sunshine Digital Media, said:

“I’ve seen so many local businesses struggling, adapting and pivoting during the pandemic, some have succeeded, and others haven’t.

“Being a small business owner myself I understand that you put your heart and soul into your business and trying to operate in a global pandemic is such a challenge, a real rollercoaster of emotions and cash flow.

“I wanted to do something to help my fellow business owners, beyond just spending with them where I can. My aim is to pull together all the wonderful things that Farsley has to offer and showcase them so local residents need look no further than their own doorstep. I believe you really can find (just about) everything you need in Farsley.”

Clare says Farsley is home to a thriving business community. The village is home to two iconic mill conversions – Sunny Bank Mills and Springfield Mills – which house a huge variety of businesses including hairdressers, beauticians, an art gallery and a craft brewery.

Farsley Town Street hosts a range of independent businesses from coffee shops and restaurants to clothing boutiques and Sutcliffe’s Greengrocers, which has been open for more than 100 years.

Clare Clifford added:

“We’ve had over 100 businesses and counting apply, a small team of volunteers is working to upload them and help those who might struggle with copywriting sell their business in 100 words. It’s important that those who don’t have a ‘shop front’ are able to raise their profile too.

“We are so lucky and fortunate to have such a talented community and when you buy from a small business you really are making someone do a happy dance. Whether you live in Farsley or not – try and keep it local this Christmas and beyond. It’s Small Business Saturday on 5 December and they need your support now more than ever.”
