FC Farsley’s five-match league and cup winning streak came to an end as they surrendered a three-goal lead to lose 5-3 at home to Pro Elite Bradford United.
When Farsley began their inaugural Yorkshire Amateur League Supreme Division campaign last month, few fans would have predicted how wildly entertaining the games would be – and entertainment certainly wasn’t lacking yesterday afternoon.
Another healthy crowd at Throstle Nest saw Farsley race to a 3-0 lead in the first 19 minutes, thanks to a brace from Lewis Hanse and a diving header from Phillip Brogan. Farsley also rattled the woodwork twice as they dominated the first 35 minutes but were ultimately left to rue early missed chances.
In a topsy turvy first half, three goals in seven minutes before half time brought the visitors level at the break.
An unstoppable strike from the left put the visitors in front two minutes into the second half. As Farsley pushed forward in search of an equaliser – and had an effort cleared off the line late on – the visitors secured all three points by scoring their fifth of the afternoon on 87 minutes.
The talented Bradford side also hit the woodwork twice in the second half as Farsley struggled to find their passing game.
- Next week FC Farsley will hope to get back to winning ways – and tighten up defensively – in the second round of the YorkshireAmateur League Cup when they entertain a strong Shelley side at Throstle Nest (kick off 2pm).
Yesterday’s game started with a minute’s applause as tribute to ‘Big’ Al Francis, the founder of junior football at Throstle Nest, who passed away earlier this week.
