FC Farsley’s community arm nets £16,500 lottery boost

A project to support older people, children and young people through regular physical and social activities has received £16,500 from the National Lottery.

The funding will support FC Farsley in the Community‘s Active Together project, a 12-month community programme. It will provide gentle exercise sessions for elderly residents, fun and inclusive sports sessions for children and young people, and intergenerational community events that bring different age groups together.

The FC Farsley in The Community board said: “We’re delighted to receive this funding and to see our community work recognised by the National Lottery.

“Active Together builds on the success of previous FC Farsley In the Community programmes and represents an exciting expansion of our work to create healthier, happier and more connected communities.

“The project aims to improve wellbeing, reduce loneliness, build confidence, and strengthen community connections. Older participants will benefit from improved mobility and reduced isolation, while children and young people will develop teamwork, discipline, and self-esteem. The intergenerational elements of the programme will encourage understanding, respect, and a shared sense of belonging across the community.

“We can’t wait to get started.”

The main beneficiaries of the project will be older residents at risk of isolation and children and young people who need positive outlets for activity and connection. The wider community will also benefit through volunteering opportunities, partnership working, and stronger neighbourhood ties.

To help celebrate the award, Calverley & Farsley ward councillors Peter Carlill, Craig Timmins and Andrew Carter joined FC Farsley owner David Stockdale and project manager Steve O’Brien in the sports hall at Throstle Nest.

FC Farsley In the Community is a dedicated programme focused on using the football club’s platform, resources and spirit to make a meaningful and lasting impact across Farsley and the wider West Leeds area.
