Farsley Westroyd Primary School and Nursery is a ‘good’ school with ‘outstanding’ behaviour

Ofsted inspectors have praised Farsley Westroyd Primary School, which is ‘ambitious for pupils to achieve high standards’.

Inspectors visited the school during early Spring and concluded: “Overall, pupils achieve well and value their education.”

The report states that: “Community is important at this school. Pupils are proud to come here and have a strong sense of belonging. Parents appreciate the school’s warm, nurturing atmosphere. Staff get to know pupils well.”

The inspector identified many strengths, including provision for children with special educational needs, and how the school removes barriers to learning for everyone.

“The school has created an inclusive environment where every pupil is supported to access the full curriculum and achieve success,” the report added. “The school ensures that staff have the expertise to adapt learning appropriately to enable pupils with SEND to benefit from the full, ambitious curriculum.”

During the inspection there was a focus on early reading and early maths and the quality of education in the Early Years. The outcome being “children in the Early Years get off to a strong start.”

The personal development of pupils is recognised in the report. “Staff support pupils’ well-being extremely well. As pupils progress through the school, they engage extremely well in their learning.  The school sets high expectations of pupils’ behaviour. Pupils meet these expectations. The behaviour of pupils at this school is exemplary.”

The inspector in her verbal feedback, shared this view and commented on how much she had enjoyed her time at Farsley Westroyd. “Pupils achieve well at this school,” the report added.

Farsley Westroyd headteacher Jenny Pashley said: “The children at this school are delightful and it is a joy to spend everyday with both the children and staff.

“Over the past five terms the school has made many changes, with new leadership at all levels, supported by a strong governing body.

“We have worked incredibly hard to ensure the children of Farsley Westroyd Primary School have the best primary education possible!”

The report recommends the school should ensure that teachers use assessment effectively to identify gaps and that teaching approaches skilfully close those gaps.
