Report: Farsley Celtic hold high-flying Spennymoor Town

Farsley Celtic held highflying Spennymoor Town to a 1-1 draw at Throstle Nest thanks to a wonder goal from Lewis Nightingale, writes Thomas Ritchie.

The first action of the match resulted in an early lead for Farsley, as Nightingale received the ball from Kyle Hancock and curled the ball into the top left corner from 25 yards.

The Celts continued their fast paced start to the match, as Paul Walker forced a good save from Daniel Lowson after being played in by Hancock. Minutes later Celtic had another glorious chance as the diminutive forward Nightingale played in Leon Osbourne, only to see his effort saved by Lowson’s feet.

The electric start to the game continued, however this time Spennymoor attacked and Andrew Stephenson squared for Liam Henderson who tapped home from close range to level the score.

Later on in the half Farsley missed a glaring opportunity to take the lead as Robbie O’Brien fired wide from six yards after Ross Daky squared the ball. Immediately after Spennymoor attacked down the other end and Gavin Cogdon’s shot struck the bar as he fired goalwards from the edge of the box.

Early on in the second half Spennymoor were inches from going in front as Andrew Stephenson was through on goal. His shot was saved by Taylor, but as the ball was rolling goalwards it was cleared off the line by Paddy Miller.

The end to end action continued as Paul Walker’s shot from the edge of the box was brilliantly tipped over the bar by Lowson. From the resulting corner Farsley’s new signing Adam Clayton could only direct his free header straight at the ‘keeper.

As the game headed into the final minutes, Spennymoor substitute Glen Taylor had a free header but, like Clayton, he could only direct it towards Tom Taylor. Spennymoor almost stole all three points with the final clear cut opportunity of the match, as Glen Taylor raced through on goal only to see Tom Taylor race off his line and brilliantly Thwart his chances of earning Town all three points.
