Farnley: Ofsted praise for ‘nurturing care’ at Kidspiration

By John Baron

Children attending Kidspiration Childcare And Education in Farnley are well behaved and all make steady progress, Ofsted inspectors have found.

Ofsted no longer publishes single overall judgements of schools, but grades schools against seven criteria.

Kidspiration, at St Makarios Church Hall, off Lawns Lane, is rated as ‘strong’ for children’s welfare and wellbeing and inclusion. It was judged to be at ‘expected’ standards for achievement; behaviours, attitudes and establishing routines; curriculum and teaching; and learning and governance.

The report states: “Children experience consistent, warm and nurturing care throughout the day. Staff know them extremely well and respond sensitively to their feelings. They are alert to children’s prior experiences and how these may affect their wellbeing. They fully consider this when they plan care and interactions so that all children feel understood and secure.

“All children make steady progress, often from low, and sometimes very low, starting points. Children with barriers to learning benefit from focused plans and small steps that help them to build confidence. They enjoy exploring the environment and take part in activities that interest them.”

The report says children behave well and respond positively to the calm and caring approach of staff. It adds: “Children enjoy taking on small responsibilities and show pride in their achievements. Overall, they build knowledge across the areas of learning and develop a broad range of skills, ready for their next stage of learning. They show growing independence and confidence as they explore the environment and make choices in their play.”

There’s also praise for their positive attitudes to learning and leaders placing inclusion at the ‘heart’ of their work.

“Pupils feel secure because staff understand their cues and adapt expectations to match their age and stage,” inspectors say. “Staff teach the language of emotions which helps children name their feelings and begin to manage them. Children play alongside others, share resources and show growing confidence as they explore the environment.”

Praising the leadership, the report adds: “Leaders are passionate and committed to providing the best for children. They act with integrity and create a culture where staff feel supported and children are at the centre of decision making. “

The report suggests leaders should promote punctuality more consistently to help families develop positive habits for the future and leaders should strengthen curriculum progression so that children experience a clear sequence of learning that builds more steadily. It adds leaders should improve teaching to help older children develop secure foundations ready for later learning in literacy.

Inspectors visited Kidspiration on 28 April, 2026. The full report can be read here.
