Councillors have agreed to fund £10,000 for writing the long-awaited Kirkstall Neighbourhood Plan – and a further grant towards new minibuses for vulnerable people in Hawksworth Wood.
The Kirkstall Neighbourhood Forum (KNF) was formed in 2016 to prepare a Kirkstall Neighbourhood Plan, which gives residents better control over new development and greater influence over the spending of local funds.
Now the forum has successfully applied for £10,000 to help fund the writing of the plan, which follows what they say is ‘extensive’ consultation with the Kirkstall community.
The forum was formed at a public meeting back in 2016.
Councillors on the South West Community Committee yesterday evening (Tuesday, 8 September) also approved an application from BEAT – Belonging Empowering & Thriving in Hawksworth Wood for £10,000 towards its Homeless Not Hopeless project.
During the first seven months, the minibuses will be used exclusively to support children and families experiencing homelessness who have been moved into temporary accommodation in Kirkstall, helping them access education, services and community support.
The project will support approximately 40 children and young people aged 5-16 and their families. Activities will take place throughout the week at the BEAT Community Hub in Hawksworth Wood, Leeds, delivered by BEAT staff, volunteers and specialist partner organisations.
Once the Homeless Not Hopeless project has been delivered, the minibuses will become a shared community resource, available at a low cost to local charities, schools, resident groups and community organisations.
The total project costs £50,000.
