The deadline for comments on Leeds Bradford Airport’s plans to change night flight operations has been extended by a fortnight to 15 October 2026.
So far there have been more than 1,500 comments on the planning application, which would update what the airport claims are ‘outdated’ planning conditions governing night-time operations.
The application looks at three main aspects of the operation of night flying from the airport:
- Converting Air Traffic Movement (ATM) restrictions to a Quota Count System (QCS) which the airport says incentivises quieter, more environmentally friendly planes at LBA.
- Condensing night time hours to 11.30pm to 5.59am to modernise operational hours, bringing the airport in line with other UK airports and more in keeping with standard European flight patterns
- Introducing a Night Noise Insulation Scheme (NNIS) to support the local communityÂ
As reported by WLD, the application has drawn a mixed reaction, with Horsforth Town Council neither supporting or objecting to the application overall, but seeking additional safeguards and mitigation measures to protect local communities while recognising the airport’s economic importance.
The Group for Action on Leeds Bradford Airport (GALBA) has vowed to fight the changes on environmental and noise grounds. Others are in favour, including the Leeds Bradford Airport Support Group, who say the proposals are vital for Yorkshire’s business connectivity, tourism and that the Quota Count System incentivises quieter aircraft technology.
