Jay Rayner, John Boyne and Joanne Harris to headline Farsley Literature Festival

The fifth annual Farsley Lit Fest will take place between 12 October and 23 November, brought to you by Truman Books and The Old Woollen.

The team from the village’s bookshop and events venue are bringing a wide range of fantastic authors in a series of over 25 talks, discussions and events to Farsley, across six weeks this autumn.

Alongside the headlining authors, the festival offers everything from a live flower arranging demo with a celebrated florist, to an evening with David Lascelles: Earl of Harewood who will reveal an astonishing true family story from the Second World War.

There’s a poetry evening that will delve into what it means to be northern, a discussion on grief with much-loved actor Greg Wise and a performance of the John Steinbeck classic, ‘Of Mice and Men’.

There are interactive experiences too. The festival includes a ‘Crime Day’ featuring not only author panels but the opportunity for you to try your hand at solving a murder in a fun hands-on session.

There’s also a writing for wellness workshop, the Book Lover’s Quiz and the youngest members of the family will have the opportunity to attend four different events on Children’s Day during the October half-term, which include storytelling, story-writing and illustrating activities.

Renowned food critic Jay Rayner is returning to Leeds where he studied at university, for an intimate evening, to celebrate the publication of his new cookbook, Nights Out In The Kitchen. It will be a hugely interesting insight into Jay’s love of restaurants and passion for great home cooking.

John Boyne, author of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed novelists of his generation. He’ll be in Farsley to chat about his life, his writing career and his new book.

The extraordinarily talented and Yorkshire-born Joanne Harris – bestselling author of Chocolat – will introduce her new, chilling winter ghost story, whilst internationally bestselling crime author Louise Candlish will reveal her latest thriller, as well as offer up an insight into the TV adaptations of her novels, that stars Martin Compston, Anna Friel and Kevin McKidd.

Kat Harrison, Events and Marketing Manager at Truman Books said: “So many amazing writers and authors take part in Farsley Lit Fest. Whatever your interests, there’s an event that will appeal to you.

“People come from across West Yorkshire, but they also travel from different parts of the country, to take part in conversations, be entertained, explore ideas, meet renowned and debut authors and to celebrate books and reading. We have some amazing authors with some really fascinating stories to share, and we can’t wait for you to meet them.”
