By Carnival chairman Simon Seary
It’s that exciting time of year again, and the annual Pudsey Carnival is just around the corner!
This year, our theme is Board Games, and we’ve already received some fantastic entries for the parade. A huge thank you to PDS Windows for sponsoring the parade and generously donating the following prizes: £100 for first place, £75 for second, and £50 for third.
If you’d like to be part of the parade, entry is free – all we ask is that you fill out a form to let us know you’ll be joining us. Visit our website to sign up.

Pets Corner will also be back this year, hosted by Animal Arkaid. Entry is just £2, and prizes will be awarded to the top three in each category, along with a rosette and a special prize. Of course, no dog will leave the ring without a treat!
The categories and timings are as follows:
- 1pm – Coolest Pups
- 1.20pm – Loveliest Ladies
- 1.40pm – Fabulous Fellas
- 2pm – Golden Oldies
- 2.20pm – The Best of Rescues
- 2.40pm – Young Handler (up to 13 years old)
- 3pm – Best Trick
- 3.20pm – Waggiest Tail
- 3.40pm – Dog Judge Would Most Like to Take Home
Animal Arkaid will also have dog agility equipment available for those who want to join in the fun without competing.
Our goal has always been to offer free activities wherever possible. Thanks to funding from the Outer West Leeds Community Committee, we’ve secured some fantastic play equipment from Breeze Leeds. We’re excited to feature the popular Demolition Ball, a new Funtime House, and giant games that fit perfectly with our theme.
The Classic Car Show continues to grow each year and has become an important part of the carnival. We’ll have several classic cars on display and in the parade. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Ford Capri, and we’re lucky to have an outstanding example locally.
As always, the carnival will kick off at 11.45am with the judging of the floats by the Leeds Lord Mayor, Councillor Abigail Marshall Katung. The parade will begin at noon and end on stage around 1pm, where our new queen, Lilah Hare, will be crowned. Following the crowning, there will be live entertainment on stage, as well as local groups performing in the main arena. A special thank you to FARMAC Building Supplies for their ongoing support and generous sponsorship of our stage.
All money raised from the parade collection will go towards purchasing defibrillators to be placed in and around Pudsey. We’ve already installed 27 defibrillators, and have responsibility for 29 in Pudsey in total as local businesses and groups add their own equipment to our cause. We will continue to fund and install and support as many life-saving units as possible.
I’d like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to our committee members for their tireless work and dedication over the years. Please remember that all of us are volunteers, working in our spare time to make this event a success. Finally, thank you to you – our supporters – for making the carnival the great event it is today!
We look forward to seeing you there!
