The upper floor of the Mike’s Carpets building in Armley has been transformed into a small workspace and community hub.
It is home to Flockwork, a co-working space created by using reclaimed materials and second hand furniture throughout.

A spokesperson for Clockwork said: “When we began working in the building, we found that the upper floor — complete with original fireplaces, exposed brick and period features — had been sitting unused for years.
“Rather than strip it back or convert it into something generic, we decided to restore and reuse what was already there.”

The renovation was carried out gradually, funded through the Mike’s Carpets business downstairs.
“We used reclaimed materials, secondhand furniture and careful restoration to preserve the building’s character,” the spokesperson added.
“Worn plaster and original brickwork were kept as part of the story rather than hidden.

“The result is a small workspace and community hub shaped by sustainability and local reinvestment — a modest example of how older buildings in West Leeds can be given new life without losing their identity.
“We didn’t want to erase the marks of time. We wanted to work with them — and create something useful for the community at the same time.”

The grade II Listed building was originally a Methodist Chapel, which opened in 1905.
