Armley Mills car park closes for storage tank works

Work has begun to construct a new underground storage tank on Canal Road – and Leeds Industrial Museum has warned its existing car park will be closed until next year.

Yorkshire Water is carrying out the essential sewage works as part of its Storm Alliance project across Yorkshire.

In Armley these works are expected to last 10 to 12 months, continuing into Spring 2027, and aim to improve the cleanliness of the River Aire.

A spokesperson for Leeds Industrial Museum said: “During this period, signposted alternative car parking can be found directly across the road from our usual car park on Canal Road, with pedestrianised access across the road.

“We are very much open as usual, but please allow extra time during your visit to account for these temporary parking measures.”

Posting on social media, Yorkshire Water said the project will help improve water quality in the River Aire by storing more excess wastewater during heavy rain.

They added: “We’ve worked closely with the museum to arrange alternate parking nearby, which will be clearly signposted. The museum will remain open as usual and traffic lights will be in place to help visitors cross safely from the alternate car park.

“There are no planned road closures as part of our work and normal working hours will be Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.

“We’ll be working alongside our partners at M Group to complete the work as quickly as we can with minimal disruption, and we’ll make sure the area is fully restored to how it was once the work is complete.”
