Plans to improve a former mother and baby unit in Armley have been approved by council planners.
Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is now seeking to bring Parkside Lodge site, off Stanningley Road, back into use by creating an 18-bed Mental Health Rehabilitation Inpatient Service.
Council planners this week approved plans to alter the facade of Parkside Lodge, with work including new doors, windows, cladding, as well as landscaping works to grounds. The parking area will provide 14 standard bays, two accessible bays and two EV charging bays.
The building has been empty since October 2022 having formerly been used as a mother and baby inpatient unit.
A council planning officer’s report approving the improvements says:Â “The works, being small in scale … are not considered to result in potential for harm to visual or residential amenity, highway safety or increase the risk of flooding, and are therefore considered acceptable and are recommended for approval under delegated powers, subject to specified conditions.”
As previously reported, Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust wants new facilities to provide high-quality rehabilitation services to improve the mental health, psychological wellbeing, social inclusion and quality of life for people with complex mental health needs.Â
