Plans to transform a Grade II listed former school in Armley into 38 apartments have been approved by Leeds City Council planners.
Armley Park Court Developments has received the green light to revamp Armley Park Court, off Stanningley Road, which is currently used as office space. The 38 apartments would include 18 one-bed flats, 18 two-bed and two three-bed.
A council planning officer’s report approving the plans said: “The proposed external adaptations to facilitate the new residential accommodation are considered to lead to some harm to the significance of the listed building.
“But this harm is considered to be successfully mitigated by the enhancements proposed internally, re-instatement of timber windows and the public benefits of bringing the vacant building back into use.
“Overall, it is considered that the heritage benefits outweigh the harm and that the special interest of the listed building is preserved. This is given significant weight in favour of the scheme.”
Originally built as a school, Armley Park Court is currently an office building comprising multiple offices under separate lease.
