Armley: Developer returns with new housing and flats plans for former industrial laundry site

Plans to demolish a former industrial laundry in Armley and transform it into housing and flats.

Developers Armley Ltd wants to demolish the largely disused Cottage Laundry buildings off Edinburgh Grove and build 11 houses and 14 flats.

Its outline plans hope to establish the principle of development on the site. More detailed plans would be submitted in a future application.

22 cars to be parked on the site and a further 15 spaces are indicated on the street along part of the building frontage. Vehicle access to the site would be via Highthorne Grove. A design and access statement accompanying the application added:

“The proposal seeks to redevelop a redundant light industrial site in an established residential area into a housing development of 25 self-contained homes for rent.”

The applicant’s proposals for 46 flats on the site were refused by council planners last December and controversial ‘co-housing’ plans – which included 146 studio rooms, a shared workspace and a cafe bar and restaurant – were withdrawn earlier in 2020.

The current plans can be viewed in full here.
