The NHS is now inviting people in their thirties to book their Covid-19 jab, starting with those aged 38 and 39.

Around a million people have been sent text messages today inviting them to book an appointment but anyone aged 38 and over can now book directly here or by calling 119.

The move to the next age group comes following three quarters of people aged 40 and 49 being given their first dose.

People under 40 and pregnant women will be offered the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine in line with updated JCVI guidance last week and will be directed to local centres that are offering these vaccines.

Dr Phil Wood, who heads up the West Yorkshire Vaccination Programme, is urging people to book. He said:

“The vaccination rollout in West Yorkshire is making excellent progress and we’re now able to start vaccinating people in their 30s, starting with those aged 38 and 39.

“Anyone who is 38 or over can book online now without waiting for an invitation or by calling 119. We have appointments available at all our vaccination centres, including our community pharmacy centres and local GP centres so you can choose a time and place that suits you.

“Our staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to vaccinate people as quickly as supplies allow so please help us to help you and book your jab asap. This will protect both you and others and the quicker you book, the quicker we can get back to a normal life.”
