Wrestling superstar and Hollywood actor John Cena has followed Farsley Celtic’s official account on Twitter.
Mr Cena, 45, has been a leading WWE wrestler for more than 20 years and has appeared in blockbuster movies including The Suicide Squad and Transformers spin-off Bumblebee.
Farsley Celtic, who play in National League North, which is the sixth tier of English football, reacted to their new celebrity follower by wishing him ‘good afternoon’ and posting a ‘waving’ emoji.
Fans reacted with excitement on social media. One posted: “John Cena to buy you out and take you up the leagues?” and another said: “Can’t see anything”, a reference to Mr Cena’s catchphrase “I see you”.
Mr Cena has also followed Matlock Town, among other semi-professional football teams in England. They tweeted Farsley Celtic: “Yes lads, let’s all get together and have a few beers.”
