Two schools from West Leeds featured in the Leeds & Hunslet Schools’ Rugby League Cup Finals, held recently at South Leeds Stadium.
In the Year 9 Lee Trophy Final, Leeds West put up a spirited display, twice fighting back from 14-0 and 24-6 down, to lose by 24 points to 16 in the end, to a talented Brigshaw side.
The Year 11 Farnley Academy side dominated the Wilson Cup Final against Brigshaw, winning by 48 points to nil. In the face of some skilful Brigshaw attacking, their defence was strong and relentless.
And in attack they played with skill as a team and also had some outstanding individuals, including half back Freddie Butler, who was player of the match.
A third West Leeds school, Pudsey Crawshaw, will contest the Year 10 Harrison Shield Final on 20 March, against Allerton Grange.
In addition, Leeds West at Year 7 and Farnley at Year 8 have qualified for the girls’ indoor touch rugby finals later this month.
