A volunteer day is being held to spruce up Burley Park this weekend – and members of the public are being invited to attend.
The Friends of Burley Park group is holding the event on Sunday, April 13, to tidy up parts of the park, which this year celebrates its 125th anniversary.
A Friends’ spokesperson said: “The park is looking great and it’s good to see so many of the bulbs we planted over the winter emerging in the community orchard.
“There are plenty of jobs for us to be getting on with in the park this month, including weeding and tidying the shrub beds. We have also been given permission to build a second compost bin, so we have somewhere to put all the weeds and trimmings as the first one is already filled.
“We have some tools, but if you have your own shears, spade or trowels, do please bring them with you – and gloves too, if you have them.”
Meet by the bandstand at 10am and the event will finish at 12pm.
Bunting help
A small team have been meeting at Left Bank on Wednesday evenings to do some bunting making.
“We’re hoping to have lots of bunting for use in the park over the 125th Anniversary weekend in September,” the spokesperson added.
“If you fancy a bit of crafting time and chat with other Friends of Burley Park members, please join them at Left Bank from 6pm on a Wednesday. If you have your own pinking shears, please bring them with you!”
There will also be an Easter Egg Hunt in the park on Easter Saturday, April 19, between 10.30am and 12.30pm.
