Volunteers encourage people to plant trees in Burley Park

By Louis Chapman-Coombe

Regular users of Burley Park are being invited to special tree planting sessions early in the New Year.

Volunteers from the Friends of Burley Park group are hosting a tree planting event on Sunday, 8 January 2023, in partnership with the Leeds Woodland Creation Team.

The event will be held over two sessions. The first session will begin at 10am, and the second session will begin at 1pm, with both lasting two hours. The sessions have space for 20 people and are done on a first come first serve basis.

The event follows the planting of new standard trees by Leeds Woodland Creation Team, and will use a design plan prepared earlier this year by Friends of Burley Park.

A spokesperson for the Woodland Team said: “Please check the weather beforehand and dress accordingly. Events will not be cancelled if it is raining!

“It is recommended that you bring some snacks, lunch and water for the duration of the day. There will be a short break for lunch – toilets will be available. Events operate on a first come, first-served basis. Young children must stay with their guardian for the duration of the day.”

Places for the 10am and the 1pm sessions can only be booked via Eventbrite: 10am session or 1am session.
