Farsley Celtic face Peterborough Sports at The Citadel in the first of a crucial double header with the Cambridgeshire outfit, as the Celts look to escape the relegation zone.
Farsley slipped into the bottom four for the first time this season on Easter after a 3-1 loss at Spennymoor Town extended the winless run to nine matches. Results for Rushall Olympic and Darlington meant the Celts finished the day in 21st position on goal difference. An opener from Ben Atkinson just after the 15th minute wasn’t enough to secure any points as the home side overturned the lead through a Will Harris penalty, followed by second half goals from Reece Staunton and Rob Ramshaw.
The Celts will be back at The Citadel this weekend, where they last recorded a 0-0 draw against Southport on Good Friday where they looked stronger defensively, limiting the away side to very little in the way of chances but ultimately failing to take all three points.
Midfielder Ben Atkinson says it’s now a massive test of resolve now for Farsley, saying: “It’s all about characters now. It’s time to stand up and be counted individually and collectively.
“We need to stick together and be ready to go to war for the four remaining games. I believe we have got more than enough to get ourselves out of it and it’s still in our hands so we all have to believe.”
The Celts picked up another injury in the form of George Smith at Spennymoor, so it remains to be seen if he will feature this weekend. Tom Allan will miss the game after his red card against Southport.
Saturday’s visitors have enjoyed a relatively comfortable second season in the National League North, after coming through a tough start to now being placed 16th in the table, five points clear of Farsley Celtic.
Their form as of late however has tailed off. After securing three wins on the bounce in February, Sports went seven league matches without a victory, ending that run against nearly-relegated Gloucester City on Monday after a Dan Jarvis goal secured a 1-0 victory at Lincoln Road. They will be looking to end the season as strongly as possible.
