A primary school in Swinnow could be set to expand to accommodate demand for extra pupils – despite local concern about traffic congestion, parking and road safety.
Park Spring Primary School in Wellstone Avenue plans to double in size from a 210-pupil school to accommodating 420 pupils.
Proposals, which will be decided by the council’s South and West Plans Panel next Thursday, include a two-storey teaching block, new staff car park and the demolition of three temporary school buildings.
The plans will be decided by the panel at the request of Pudsey councillor Mick Coulson, following concerns raised by neighbouring householders about the impact of traffic and off-road parking by residents on the estate.
A report to be considered by councillors says:
“The scheme has been designed to respond to highway issues raised by the council’s highway engineer and resident comments and as a result a package of offsite measures to improve both pedestrian safety and highway improvements are proposed to help mitigate against any potential traffic impacts.”
The proposals, which are recommended for approval by planning officers, can be read in full here.
