The second phase of works to expand Park Spring Primary School in Swinnow has been approved by council chiefs.
Expenditure of £280,000 has been approved to expand Park Spring Primary from a 1.5 form entry with 315
pupil places, to a two-form entry with 420 places from September 2017.
The first phase of works has already been completed and the latest expenditure will provide a temporary hard play area as the existing play area will need to be closed while the new extension is built.
Major building work on the scheme, which is costing £4.9m in total, is due to start next month and will be finished by March 2018. Work includes improvements to existing facilities and a new two-storey extension which will include a new nursery, reception, and four key stage 2 classrooms.
The school, off Wellstone Avenue, is being expanded in order to meet an increased demand for places.
Overall approval for the scheme was granted by the council’s executive board in December 2015.
